South of the biggest reservoir lake in Portugal – the Alqueva Lake – a deserted old railroad line runs through the Alentejo landscape connecting Beja with Moura. Portugal has a huge solar panel field in the southern Alentejo region close to Spanish border. The impressive solar energy farm is operational since 2008 – and quite remarkably, the solars panel are all home-made Portuguese from a nearby factory in Moura.

Since 2010 Portugal has the largest artificial lake in Europe - the Alqueva reservoir. The huge lake was created in 2002 and reached it’s maximum level in 2010. Besides its use for irrigation and electricity production this 83 Km long lake is located in a very nice region – The Alentejo. Have a look.
