Solar energy from Portugal

Portugal has a huge solar panel field in the southern Alentejo region close to Spanish border. The impressive solar energy farm is operational since 2008 – and quite remarkably, the solars panel are all home-made Portuguese from a nearby factory in Moura.

Portugal’s largest solar energy field

It’s a prestigious project – located near the biggest reservoir lake in Europe – the Amareleja solar farm in the sun swept Alentejo province.

The solar field has rows and rows of large identical solar stands – each stand consisting of 104 solar panels of approximately 100 Watt. That’s approximately 4 - 8 Kw per solar stand on a sunny day. The panels are made by Fluitecnik in nearby Moura.

The solar farm is designed to produce the energy equivalent of 30.000 households. This Photo Voltaic (PV) solar field has the highest output in the world because of it’s size and sunny location. (Its not the largest PV field in the world)
