For those who travel it's an all too familiar subject - how to refill your propane, butane gas-bottle for cooking, heating and cooling. So far after 4 years the German type "grey" 13.5 Kg gas-bottle seems to best solution for many destination. In all countries it was pretty easy to get a refill of a German type gas bottle - till we arrived in Spain and Portugal. Here's the story how to adapt to the Iberian gas bottle system.
The Spanish and Portuguese propane gas bottle system
Here's the situation encountered in Spain and Portugal; similar bottles but totally different bayonet connection. Get a German propane gas bottle refilled in Spain or Portugal is like a needle in a haystack. It seems the practice has disappeared from the Iberian continent - probably illegal also. So for the first time in 4 years we converted to a different gas bottle system - luckily a fairly simple process.

Repsol bayonet gas bottle adapter in Spain and Portugal
The conversion is simple - the German gas bottle connection fits the Repsol bayonet adapter. Total cost in 2012:
- The repsol adapter : € 15,-
- Full Repsol propane gas refill : € 26,-
- The Repsol gas bottle: € 15,- (refundable)

Repsol bottles bought in Spain or Portugal can be exchanged cross-border. Nearly every Repsol petrol station has a bottle exchange.
