The former East German DDR operated a vast amount of open-cast coalmines for fueling electricity plants. Nowadays most coalmines are shutdown and converted into man made lakes - many are now recreation areas. An impression of Gräbendorfer See – in the south-east near the Polish border.
During our years of overland travel we’ve heard much about it – Willys Treffen – an International overland travel event in Germany. It’s the yearly meeting point for the vehicle dependant overland traveler and enthusiasts. This year 2010 it was the 31-st time since 1979, named after the organizer Willy Janssen. An impression of this unique and totally amazing event with more than 650 vehicles in 2009 and at least equal in size in 2010.
History of Beja Airport - Portugal
Beja Airport has a history that starts back in the 1960's. It's known as Beja Airbase BA11 - a big project of the German Air Force in Portugal.
