Local cheese from the Auvergne
Special local cheese sold at Place de Plot is 'Fromage Bleu de St Jean-Lachamp'. It's well known in Le Puy en Velay and surroundings. The local custom is to taste the cheese before buying. With a thin pipe a piece of the inside of the cheese is cut out to reach the blue part.
The name of the cheese is from a small village nearby, called St Jean-Lachamp.

Saint Jaques de Compostelle GR65
Place du Plot in Le Puy en Velay is the starting point of the Via Podlensis - a long distance footpath - the GR65 - leading all the way to St- Jaques de Compostelle in Spain.
From early spring to late autumn many pilgrims start their pilgrimage at Place du Plot after visiting the morning ceremony at the church nearby. And surprisingly, also the end point of the GR65 has very remarkable cheese.
