After a search on the internet for a place to fill our water tanks in Portugal we found an unique place. An overnight parking in the yard of the Vila Vicosa fire brigade.

There is plenty of fresh water and you get to see some good fire fighting equipment upclose. We filled our tanks with 600 liters of water, had a look among the various firebrigade trucks and had a nice chat with the officers on duty.

A brand new Mercedes Benz Atego 1326 was the latest addition to the Fire brigade station.

With lots of dry terrain around Vila Vicosa this 4x4 truck is capable of driving the most difficult tracks. If this rig won’t make it – most likely others won’t get there either.

International Fire truck in Portugal

One of the oldies in Vila Vicosa is a International Fire Truck. It’s more than 35 years old and still in running condition, although it won’t make it on the dirt roads around Vila Vicosa.

Staying overnight in Vila Vicosa

Staying overnight with a motorhome, campervan at the Firebrigade yard costs € 5,- per night per vehicle. Refilling a water tank and flushing waste water is € 2,-.

In 2012 there was no sign for the costs of these services. Just enter the yard with your motorhome and after refilling walk up to the entrance of the Fire brigade station and they will tell you where to pay. You’ll get an official receipt of your payment.

There's also a bar and restaurant at the fire brigade yard.
