Toyota Land Cruiser LJ70 Thermostat broken
With summer arriving engine temperatur in a Toyota Land Cruiser LJ70 is way too low.
The dashboard gauge shows a very low reading during long trips - time to have a look and replace the original thermostat
Measured temperature didn't reach above 64 celcius (147 Fahrenheit). This on a day of 32 Celsius / 89 Fahrenheit
The Thermostat is rated at 88 Celsius / 190 Fahrenheit and should keep the engine at this approximate temperature.
The old thermostat looks more simple, the rubber ring acts as a gasket.
Front view
The housing needs a bit of cleaning, there is no paper gasket
Have a look at the result, before and after;
A little oxide in the edges needed cleaning
When ordering the Thermostat, it's best to also order the rubber seal, if not included with the thermostat.
Just to be sure have liquid gasket sealant at hand when the thermostat housing starts leaking afterwards.
Not sure if the dashboard temperature is showing a correct value, measure temperature yourself with this device
