162 Days in the East
CB Set

Why? : Ever wondered why truck drivers sometimes seem to know more about what's ahead of you on the road? For instance knowing the reason why you're in a traffic jam, what routes not to take, border crossings with long queues...
These are reasons for us to install a CB set (i.e.: 27MC or 11 meter) onboard. Next to that the set could be a (slight) help when stranded somewhere for whatever reason. However the standard transmission range of these sets is relatively small. (<5 Km)

Regulations : 4 watts on 40 FM channels is permitted in Europe without a license. It's unknown to us which regulations are practiced in the Middle-East. The RDR didn't shed much light on this subject either.

CB-set & Antenna: Seen many low-cost sets, even in handheld versions. Some of them also offer AM transmission mode, however illegal without a permit. A combination of a handheld and a fixed base (car-set) seems a logical choice.

Our choice : Conrad has an AM/FM set of reasonable pricing.
