Muscat Campsite Free camping at public beach in Oman
Saturday, 18 October 2008
For those who need a cheap place to stay near Muscat for a short period of time and do like camping out in the open, the public beach area of Bandar Jissah (Jassah) –  known as Al Jissah (Jassah) beach most likely is the place to be. With a large open area behind the beach between the ruins of an old village and a few facilities to cater day trippers it’s not a bad place to stay. However it’s a good idea to come prepared, specially for those without their own transportation.

DC/AC Power inverter experiences
Monday, 13 October 2008
One of our most universal devices in our camper truck is probably the power inverter, generating 220 Volt AC mains from our DC 24 Volt home batteries. It allows us to use most of our electrical appliances on a daily basis. Specially for the ones which require a clean energy source like a computer, printer and so on. 220 Volt Mains outlets in Pakistan, India and Nepal are far from stable and can easily damage sensitive electrical equipment with nasty and frequent power glitches. We chose for the Alessi 750 VA sinewave DC/AC Power inverter and it exceeded our expectations.

Mobile Aircon, Air Conditioner for a Mercedes Benz 4x4 1017A
Saturday, 14 June 2008
After experiencing the scorching heat of Oman in March & April 2008 we felt that aircon (air-conditioner) in this region is definitely no luxury. As we heard from so many others – staying in the UAE or Oman without air-conditioner during summer time is close to unbearable and specially when living in a truck. And we only felt the heat in the springtime with so far relatively low humidity. So staying on the Arabian Peninsula during summer makes Air Conditioning a must have. Just like a heater is during winter time in Europe. But air conditioner installation isn’t an easy job in our case – the OM352 6 cylinder engine is not prepared for such modifications. But if there’s a region with a lot of air conditioner experience, it must be the Arabian Peninsula. So we searched and found an A/C fitter in Dubai for heavy trucks and special equipment – and for those who are thinking about air-conditioner installation too – read on – it’s a long story with quite a few technical details.

Importing a dog into Oman - innoculations, certificates and permits
Wednesday, 09 April 2008
On 13 march 2008 we've gone through all pet import paperwork and procedures to import Indra – our  white Canadian Sheppard – from the UAE into Oman. On this day we crossed the border into Oman at the Hatta border post (Al Wajajah). It was a hot day already and being at the border with any missing per import paperwork would have made the border crossing an even longer story for sure.
