Internet in Greece for travellers is mainly found in Internet Cafe’s or the occasional Wi-Fi connection as we discovered in may 2009. It seems not much has changed since 2006. The big mobile network operators in Greece mainly target Greeks or foreign residents with wireless internet subscriptions for a minimum of 1 year or more. However, after exploring the internet landscape in Greece there’s 1 mobile network operator offering prepaid wireless internet bundles. Here’s our story.

Mobile Internet in Iran through GPRS/EDGE

As we already experienced in Iran in 2007, getting connected to the internet, using the mobile internet services of network operator MTN Irancell, is not that difficult. Although the private operated network doesn’t have full coverage, for those who travel with a laptop / Netbook / PDA it’s a good alternative next to finding Internet Café’s. This for a fairly reasonable price and internet connection speed wherever in the MTN Irancell network. Here you find our experience with MTN Irancell in march 2009.

Diesel rationing in Iran from march 2009

Just before Nowruz, the Iranian new year – approximately 21 march 2009, the Iranian government implemented a new measure to ration fuel supply and to curb fuel smuggling to Turkey and Pakistan. Diesel fuel for commercial truckers is only available through a chipcard – same as it already was for petrol. Here’s our story how this affects travelers with diesel powered vehicles.

Affordable Internet anywhere in Turkey through GPRS/EDGE

Since our last visit to Turkey in 2006, the internet landscape has changed quite a bit. In 2006 it took a bit of logistics to get affordable connected to the internet. Now in 2009, this has changed with dramatic price reductions for mobile cell phone connected internet using GPRS/EDGE. Same as in other Asian countries, it dramatically improves internet access once within the mobile cell phone network. Here you find our experiences in April 2009.
