Having arrived in the UAE by ferry in Port Khalid - Sharjah – we expected mobile communication wouldn’t be a problem at all. Totally true, getting connected is no problem at all is this region. There’s full coverage for mobile / cell phones with GPRS/EDGE/3G (internet) in all city regions and a lot of WIFI hotspots. However at a price. Coming from Iran, Pakistan and India getting connected is far more cheaper. Nonetheless with a little bit of preparation there’s a way to reduce costs when you stay longer than just a few days.

Thuraya prepaid simcard renewal in Iran

Travelling with a Thuraya satellite phone using a Thuraya prepaid simcard requires access to Thuraya prepaid scratch card numbers every year. The yearly simcard renewal requires a minimum balance. While on the move this isn’t always as easy as it sounds. Being close to a Thuraya dealer in Asia is quite a rarity. The only place we’ve actually seen a Thuraya prepaid scratch card is in the Netherlands. So far we’ve been using the convenient FillFull service for Thuraya prepaid scratch card numbers. However this service is down since November 2007. What to do when you find yourself in Iran and you need to renew a Thuraya prepaid simcard registration?

Indra - Our dog with a leg brace - Treatment

In may 2007 our Swiss white Shepard badly injured her left front leg from falling down concrete stairs in Kathmandu – Nepal. She was diagnosed with a fractured left wrist. She wore a cast for 6 weeks to heal damaged bones in her wrist joint. Here you find her story after removing the cast starting a 3,5 month long recovery.

Indra is a Swiss (Canadian / White) Sheppard - age 6 - and accompanies us on a journey through Asia by truck. Her ordeal covers a 8 month episode till a reasonable recovery.
